Manufacturers Eco Furniture Sustainable and Environmentally, make it easier to inject a splash of bright color into children's furniture. For example, South Shore Industries offers Painted Home, a collection of children's bedroom furniture inspired by East Coast furniture styles and summer vacation colors and textures.
“Our customers often call us colorful furniture,” says Nathalie Spooner, design manager for South Shore, which now creates furniture in many colors. "because what we offer our customers are bright colors blue for the boys and yellow for the girls, with a choice of dark red for both.
You can see the 'wood' color through the blue and yellow brush strokes, making it look like old painted furniture, these bright colors make the customer feel at home."
Like the rest of the collection, this one is made with durable Composite Panel Association (CPA) certified EPP particleboard and Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF).
EPP stands for Environmentally Preferable Product, Eco Furniture Sustainable and Environmentally which means a designation for an environment that indicates that the product is made from 100 percent recycled or restored fiber content. This helps expand natural resources and diverts millions of tons of wood waste, which is obviously very environmentally friendly.
The EPP trademark also states that the product's emissions meet or exceed strict American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards. The reason particleboard and MDF get such good ratings is that they are basically recycled.
Manufacturers of particleboard, MDF, and hardboard produce board trim pieces, sorting panels, and other wood particles and fibers. More than 50 percent of this residue is recycled back onto the board.
Architects and designers looking for eco-friendly products define EPP products.
